Thyagaraya Nagar, or T Nagar as it is commonly known, is a testament to Chennai's early urban planning. Developed between 1923 and 1925 under the Madras Presidency government, the Raja of Panagal led this initiative, transforming what was once East Mambalam into a well-planned urban area. Named after P. Thyagaraya Chetty, the area was carefully designed with streets, parks, and localities named after key officials, making it a symbol of meticulous urban planning. The design was inspired by European urban layouts, a departure from the usual planning norms of that time.
