The word Perambur originated from the Tamil Language. The word, “Pirambu” translates to bamboo, while, “Ur” means city or place. Because of the former British residencies in and around Perambur during the construction and operation of the Integral Coach Factory, this neighborhood now has the highest concentration of Anglo-Indian groups in Chennai.
